The Hilling are recruiting for a Maintenance Operative to join their team working 35 hours per week. The quality and appearance of our care homes create the first impression for visitors and are a source of enjoyment and great pleasure for our residents and their families. Our Maintenance Teams take huge pride in maintaining our buildings to the highest possible standards.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the home is kept visually in good order.
  • Working knowledge of carrying out risk assessments, formulate action plans and carry out works required to manage down risk, keeping robust records for auditing purposes.
  • Ensure all maintenance checks are carried out in accordance with established procedures.
  • Maintain records of all maintenance checks in the appropriate documentation schedules.
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures.
  • Proactively identify system issues that may result in loss of service and or have a negative impact of the quality of service delivery and report to the Home Manager within good time.
  • Moving and relocating equipment as required.
  • Painting and redecoration of all areas within the home as requested by the Home Manager and per the maintenance schedules.
  • Plumbing as required including sinks, toilets, drains, washing machines.
  • Ensure that basic electrical maintenance is carried out safely, eg changing of light bulbs, replacing correct amperage plug fuses etc.
  • Check all electrical items meet PAT testing requirements or supervise external professional.
  • Ensure all maintenance, decorating, cleaning products, gardening tools and any other equipment is stored safely.
  • Supervise external contractors who are undertaking any work.
  • Collecting equipment and supplies as required.
  • Ensuring any external maintenance work including contractual is carried out to appropriate standards and specifications, management of engineering and trades staff and document accordingly.

Daily Duties

  • Maintain confidentiality to all residents and clients at all times.
  • Respect the confidentiality of information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act at all times.
  • Travel as required within the area and other areas within the company for business and training.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Experience

  • Experience of managing a maintenance department.
  • Previous experience working within an elderly care environment is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of managing all maintenance spends within budget including CAPEX spends.

Education and Qualification

Good general DIY skills.

Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.

This role will be for 35 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with some flexbility needed as required.
