As Medications Officer, the primary purpose is to ensure:

  • Service users receive their medication accurately at appropriate times.
  • Files for both Care Assistants and Service Users are compliant and that both Care Assistant and Service User reviews and assessments are completed in a timely fashion in line with reports
  • Managing care workers in their daily activities to ensure a consistent quality of service is provided
  • Visit new customers prior to the provision of a homecare package to introduce the company, carry out initial risk assessments and ensure all records and files are in place

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • This is field based position; you are expected to be available accordingly to carers availability for spot checks and supervision.
  • Attend meetings, some of which may take place at weekends.
  • Liaise with care plan assessors to ensure that assessments take place for new service users, correct paperwork is in the service user’s homes and that these are updated and amended when care plan changes take place
  • Make sure customers personalised care plans are changed when medication administration rules changed
  • To ensure all spot checks and supervisions are completed for each new or returning from hospital customers
  • Carers to be supervised a minimum of four times a year
  • Medication assessments to be presented to the manager for final check before filing
  • Ensure MAR charts are produced and promptly delivered to customers houses
  • All MAR charts are collected, audited and checked by the 3rd of each month
  • Error letters completed, compliance documentation completed for carers and customers and any concerns are to be reported to the manager with no delays
  • Compile and send out to care workers reports of any errors on the appropriate forms and arrange to meet with care workers to explain if needed
  • Keep a comprehensive record of all issues relating to medication and ensure notes are added to the Staff Plan Journal (Agency Manager) as necessary
  • Co-ordinate any medication changes that arise throughout the week
  • To be available to take calls from care workers, service users, district nurses or GPs concerning medication at least twice a week
  • Organise care workers availability for any medication training courses that need to be completed - especially after errors
  • Ensure both Care Assistant files and Service User files are fully compliant
  • Attend meetings with the teams, district nurses and/or GPs as necessary
  • Report any concerns regarding care workers or service users
  • Liaise with other professionals to implement all medication changes
  • File all completed MAR charts in service users' folders by the 5th of each month
  • Attend any training required, adhering to Company's policies and procedures at all times
  • Telephone calls must be answered and dealt with promptly and courteously treating colleagues and service users equally and respectfully, in line with equal opportunities

 

Daily Duties:

  • Maintain and respect confidentiality of information in line with the requirements at all times in line with the Data Protection Act
  • Ensure the dignity and respect of every service user is maintained at all times
  • Complete weekly KPI’s, by 17:00 each Friday providing full information regarding completed tasks, time scale and mileage claim. Failing to meet the deadline in delivery of this information to the Manager may result in the delay of your wages pay
  • Weekly KPI must be completed in advance by Wednesday for the following week to make sure all upcoming assessment are completed
  • Infection Prevention and Control Link Champion, this will be another 4-5 hours a week

Health and Safety:

Co-operate with the employer to ensure the compliance with Health and Safety legislation and the Health and Safety policies and procedures are adhered to, not intentionally or recklessly interfere with, or misuse anything provided in the interests of health, safety or welfare, in pursuance of the relevant statutory provisions.

 

Person Specification Knowledge and Experience:

  • Previous experience working within the homecare industry
  • Working knowledge of regulatory frameworks, inspection processes and documentation
  • Understand service provision in the care profession
  • Care/support worker and service user matching
  • Good working knowledge of IT systems
  • Experience of undertaking service users assessment, care/support plan, risk assessment and reviewing documents
  • Previous knowledge of report preparation
  • Full drivers licence and access to your own vehicle is required

Education and Qualification:

General secondary education qualifications

Level 3 certificate in Health and Social Care or equivalent is desirable but not essential as an opportunity to undertake training will be provided.
